I remember the first time I flew first class, it was in 2012; the air hostess came to ask me what I would want for refreshments. She came to me first because I was occupying the 1A seat. I thought it was the same refreshment (a small biscuit or cake with a small cup of water or juice) as they serve those flying economy which I was accustomed to. I told her to just give me water. I was hungry but a small biscuit or cake would not quench my hunger. Then she proceeded to the person sitting next to me, a popular Nollywood actor, he asked for rice and chicken. One woman asked for jollof rice mixed with fried with plantain and beef plus juice and water. At that point I realized I had short-changed myself. Ordinarily I should have called the lady back and asked for what I wanted but I was too shy so I lost out on delicacies that were meant for me. That is the way some people are in life. They go through hardships and sufferings; they envy those who seem to be enjoying life doing the right things. They think they don’t have what it takes to live such a beautiful life, they think some of those living the life they would have loved to live are lucky, some even think it is their destiny to suffer; what they don’t know is that they could actually live like or even better than those people they admire. The truth is; life doesn’t give you what you wish for or deserve it gives you what you demand and tenaciously pursue.
The proof of desire is pursuit. If there is a particular life or thing you desire, rather than just wishing or envying those that have it while you feel hopeless and powerless, pursue. Get all the information and knowledge you need to have about what you want to achieve or be, then take action. It is at the point of taking action that many people miss out. Many live a mediocre life because they are afraid to fail, forgetting that not taking any action towards achieving their goals or aspirations is failure on its own.
Those who amount to much in this life are those who have a lifestyle of “If I perish, I perish”, and these people hardly perish, they rather blossom. It is those who are afraid of perishing to the point that they get paralyzed by their fear and fail to take action that eventually perish. The bible says, “if you cling to your life, you will lose it, but if you let go, you will save it”. The worst are those who live a clueless life. Something is common to ALL notable people in this world; ACTION. They don’t sit down waiting for luck or hoping that some circumstances in the future will favor them or someone to help them. The moment they are clear on what to do or attempt, they take action.
I am not afraid of failure, even though I don’t fail, if I don’t achieve the exact thing I set out to achieve, the worst that could happen is for me to learn a lesson and get an experience. Lessons and experiences are valuable assets, so no loss. I also don’t usually figure out everything and how I would achieve something before I set out. Usually to my surprise, the moment I take steps I find out that I just keep going and going, I meet people that are interested, learn what needs to be learnt along the way, things just align till the objective is achieved, then I take a look at my starting point and my question would be; “wow, how did I get here? I made it.
By the way, actions are different from actions, steps are different from steps. If your actions are taken with safety in mind, you are not ready. I usually burn the bridges so that I won’t run back to my comfort zone in the face daunting challenges when push comes to shove, which would most likely happen. If I perish, I perish but I am not perishing, I am blossoming.
I am not afraid of death, I am afraid of not living my life to the brim, I am afraid of not fulfilling all my potentials. The reason I can’t die now is because I haven’t done all I need to do. I still have so many potentials unfulfilled, so many places not gone, so many things undone but trust me I am pursuing. I am taking actions. I refuse to be a spectator in this life.
Dear reader, this life you are living is the real one, the only one, live it fully. Don’t just exist, live. The people you read about, chase about, yearn to meet, don’t have two heads. They are mostly people who have BECOME successful in the way they think and reason which shows in the actions they take and in the words they speak. Refuse to live an average life or a life of mediocrity. There is no end to moving forward. You can be more!
